The Williams' Family Housing Fund is a campaign to provide housing for a family in rural Tennessee with two children, 2-year old Haley and a special needs infant named Robert, Jr. ("Little Man"), who are presently living in a 15 foot camper shell. This fund was conceived to help raise additional funds needed to buy a repossessed mobile home. The home must be located, purchased, moved, installed, and hooked up to utilities, including the installation of a septic system. Their current camper has a tarp over the roof in order to deflect a bad water leak that developed over the summer and runs onto the bed. The camper is large enough for only a double bed and a tiny crib, and the family has no access to running water. They carry water from a spring. The family lives in a very under-developed, economically deprived rural region, and there is no subsidized housing in this area. The father is disabled from many years of working in asphalt and concrete and he has a permanent spinal injury; he is 52 and has been unsuccessful in obtaining Social Security disability. A permanent housing solution must be found before cold weather sets in! They have already endured more than one winter in the camper, running two small space heaters on an extension cord from a near-by house - an obvious fire hazard and a desperate situation. There is no abuse, neglect, addiction or violence involved in this situation, only decent, proud people coming out of multi-generational economic poverty created by lack of opportunity.
The family are clients of Catholic Charities of East Tennessee, and the fund has already received two generous kick-off gifts totaling $7,000. Please help us make up the $13,000 difference and in so doing, provide these children and this family with a safe housing situation that meets basic human needs: access to clean drinking water, a roof over their heads, and protection from extreme cold and heat!
By pooling resources, we CAN get this family out of the cold and heat and into a decent housing situation. Think of your own children and grand children, and then give like you would want others to give to them if this situation was a part of your familiy profile. Please prayerfully consider what your part can be as you scroll through the photos.Thank you!!
