Houlihan Clan Foundation/Williams Warriors
William Harris is a happy-go- lucky 18 year old young man that needs our support. William was born with Down Syndrome and Intractable Epilepsy, then when he was 14 years old he was dianosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. William underwent 2 1/2 years of chemotherapy, bone marrow biopsies, spinal taps, and had multiple prolonged intensive care admissions, as a result of seizures and pneumonia. William has conquered all of that and is still smiling!
Unfortunately, as a result of the treatment, the chemotherapy has now left William with Osteonecrosis. This is a permanent deadening of the bone/joints,and in his case the hips and shoulder. William is currently wheelchair bound, but is enduring physical and occupational therapy at Marianjoy, to build muscle in hopes to get him back on his feet.
The Harris' have been in need of modifications in their home for over a year but due to the financial state that Illinois is in, they have been waiting for assistance with no promise of any help arriving soon. In addtion to covering the cost of necessary modifications, the medical bills are staggering, and therefore we are hoping, with all of your support, we can lighten their load. All they want is to continue offering the best care in the safest environment for William!
There are several things that the Harris' need in order to ensure William's safety, as well as their own. The most immediate need is a stair lift to the second floor, a ramp leading into the house from the garage, an adjustable hospital bed, and a handicapped accessible bathroom/remodel. One would not believe what the three of them are enduring physically and emotionally everyday; their strength is incredible!
WILLIAM'S JAIL & BAIL EVENT on Saturday, April 23rd, we hope will make a big impact for the Harris family. Our hopes are to to bring Naperville District 203 employees, students & the larger community together for this common cause, while creating a whole lot of FUN and energy! William's Mom, Jeanette, is the District Supervisor of Health Services, she and husband Joe have a 2013 NCHS graduate that attends Marquette and of course younger son William, who is the ultimate WARRIOR!
Then on Saturday, July 16, the Houlihan Clan Foundation will host their 4th Annual Golf Outing at Village Greens of Woodridge, all proceeds to benefit William Harris and family. The Houlihan Clan Foundation was established with William in mind when he was first diagnosed with Leukemia in 2012, and that first outing was a huge success. They have since helped 3 other families in need, and due to the medical bills and modifications William was chosen for this years event again!
We hope you will join us for one or all events and be one of WILLIAMS WARRIORS!
