I met Karla, Willie Mae Rock Camp's Executive Director, at an Urban Girl Squad event in 2008 and absolutely fell in love with what this non-profit is about. That summer, I volunteered as a camp photographer, capturing moments around camp and best of all, taking rocking, posed band photos of all the campers.
The excitement and passion for music and for living out loud was apparnet from EVERYONE, kids and adults alike, and rang through the halls. I believe this organization has something very special to offer whether you're a musician or just like hanging with some really rad people, who believe in doing good in the world.
Let's help keep the spirit of Willie Mae alive by funding their sliding scale program, which allows lower income families to send their girls to camp too! Please donate, even a dollar!
Help us raise $10,000 for the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls Fairness Fund!
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a non-profit music and mentoring program. We run summer camps and after school programs, we mentor bands, and we present shows and community events throughout NYC. Thanks to our Fairness Fund, all of our programs are offered free of charge or with sliding-scale tuition.
We're knocking down some pins in support of the Fairness Fund, and in celebration of the proposition that GIRLS ROCK -- and we invite you to join us, as a team captain, a bowler, or a team sponsor.
