Nationals Debate Trip
Organized by: Willow Fast Horse
EVENT DATE May 27, 2016
Hi! We are sisters and have qualified for the 2016 trip to NCFL (National Catholic Forensics League) Nationals being held in Sacramento, California on May 27th-30th. This year we were policy debate partners and worked really hard to achieve success. We were awarded third place at conference for the FVA (Fox Valley Association) 2015, third place at the Terror Invitational, broke to Octo-finals for debate at State, and have held an unbroken, winning record throughout the entire debate season!
We are both Oglala Lakota Sioux and Bear Clan. We live in a single parent household, with our dad, as our mom passed away about five years ago of brain cancer. Here's a little bit more about ourselves individually:
My name is Lilly and I am a freshman. I go to Renessaince School for the Arts. I am a thrower in track, am in forensics, where I do farrago, student congress, HOSA, and mock trial, where I am a lawyer. I love to draw, talk politics, and read. In the summer, I volunteer at Riverview gardens.
My name is Willow, and I am a junior in high school. I'm in two sports, track and cross country. I'm also a part of the Forensics Team, where I do extemp, and have done farrago. I'm in mock trial, where I've played roles both as witnesses and as a lawyer. And I am in Student congress. I am marshal in the judicial branch of Youth in Government (through the YMCA). I am also part our district's Indian Education Program and serve as Advisory Committee Chairperson. This year a couple of my friends and I created our school's Art Club, where I am secretary and co-founder. I am in also HOSA (Health Occupation Student Association), and wish to become a General practitioner when I am older. I volunteer at local elementary and middle school events to be a cultural performer as a Native American Fancy Shawl Dancer. I also volunteer through the foreign language integration program (FLIP) program where I help teach kids French. This summer I also plan to volunteer at YMCA camp Nan a bo sho! I am also taking college and honors level courses through my high school and work part-time as a cashier to pay for extracurricular expenses. I love to paint, bike, run, and camp.
Any donation made to this fundraiser will be used to help pay for our plane tickets, lodging, meals, and personal expenses of this debate trip. We have participated in school fundraiser and received a principal's grant to help pay for part of the cost, but our debate coach estimates that we will still need $940 for each individual/ approximately $1880 for the both of us. We are very excited for this opportunity and look forward to reporting back about our experience, success, and accomplishment. Thank you for your time and consideration!
