Will was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in the middle of July 2016. Within 2 weeks his symptoms got worse and he was admitted back to Mayo hospital to begin more treatment for his symptoms. After there was no improvement the decision was made to remove his colon which would ultimately provide a cure. Will had his colon removed on August 15th. Will spent a week recovering in the hospital after his initial surgery. He was discharged and ended up back at Mayo in less than 24 hours due to symptoms of a bowel obstruction. At this point Will had lost more than 25 pounds. Not more than 48 hours passed and he needed to go down to Mayo again due to symptoms of another obstruction. This time the CT scan noted a twisted bowel which would require another surgery to fix it. Will’s second surgery was August 28th. He is now at home recovering but will require 2 more surgeries in the next year to complete the reconstruction process. Will has an amazing spirit and has been a true fighter since his diagnosis. He has been through so much the whole month of August. When his mother began crying in the ER during their second middle of the night trip to Mayo he said, “everything is going to be ok mom.” She had said she wanted to take away all his suffering and take his place to which he responded, “I would never let you.” Medical and travel expenses and time off work have created added stress. We are hoping to raise some money for Will and his family to take some of the financial stress away from the family so they can focus on keeping Wills spirits and health up!!!
