ORGANIZER: MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION OF CENTRAL CALIFORNIA
EVENT DATE: Sep 18, 2016
Bret graduated from CSU Fresno with a BS degree in Business Management in 1996 and another BS degree in Enology in 1999. In March 2000, he founded Engelmann Cellars. After college, Bret was in charge of all wine making at a 12 million gallon a year winery in the Fresno area. In 2000, he started Engelmann Cellars in an old raisin shed that his grandfather built on the 200 acre family vineyard in 1957. Today Engelmann Cellars is run by Bret and his wife Elainea, who graduated Cal Poly in Graphic Communications. Together they have brought the wine up to 3,000 cases a year with 85% sold directly to the customer in their tasting room or online. Engelmann Cellars also has 5 local Costco warehouses selling their wine.
When asked what he likes to do in his free time, Bret responded, "When you own your own business and get asked a question like this, you really have to think about it because you really don't get much time to do what you like. The first thing that came to mind is taking a Monday off to spend time with my wife Elainea and either have lunch at Pismo's or just catch up on the DVR. I also love making wine. When I am working in the winery it is long hours, but for me it isn't really work since I love it so much."
Bret and Elainea attended Wine Women & Shoes two years ago, and she told him that he should become a Shoe Guy. He agreed without hesitation, and is excited to join the event for another year. "I'm also really good at drinking wine and talking," he added.
