Wings of Rescue recently suffered a devastating loss. In May of this year the plane owned by our Founder, Yehuda Netanel, that was responsible for flying up to 50% of the animals we save, was destroyed in a plane crash during a test flight following the annual inspection. Both test pilots perished. We are so thankful that Yehuda was not in the plane at the time, but are still reeling in the aftermath of this sad event. Because of this, we are struggling to try to find a way to keep up with the demand of all the pets we need to continue flying via our life saving long distance air transport program.
With almost 3 million animals being destroyed annually in city and county shelters nationwide, Wings of Rescue is making a tangible difference with its unique alternative to the shelter system and a lofty goal to fly 7,000 pets to freedom this year. However, with the loss of our major transportation medium, this goal is going to be more difficult to achieve unless we have the support of our Wings of Rescue friends and donors.
Wings of Rescue's former airplane was able to fly up to 60 animals each week when it was operational. With the purchase of a safe and efficient previously owned 1998 Pilatus PC-12 with an avionic upgrade, we would be able to fly 200 animals each week. That is an increase of 140 pets we can save per week. Essentially with this aircraft we would be able to complete our goal of saving 7,000 animals this year and double that number for 2016. Over the lifetime of owning this plane, we will be able to save over 200,000 animals. In addition to the animals that we will be flying with our new plane, we are also freeing up kennel space in the shelters for additional animals to have the opportunity of being adopted.
This airplane in the condition we require for starting operations immediately typically costs approximately two million dollars with the avionic upgrade, but our Founder has generously offered to donate the proceeds from his insurance payout from his previous plane in the amount of one million dollars to start the fundraising challenge for the Pilatus PC-12.
We are now reaching out to you, our Wings of Rescue supporters, animal lovers, and friends to help us to continue saving dogs and cats from "economic euthanasia". Wings of Rescue is the only non-profit animal transport organization that is able to move a large number of animals long distances without stopping. Remember that most of the animals that we fly are adopted within two days to a week after reaching their new destination.
With this mind, please consider making a donation today or sign up for a fundraising page and reach out to family and friends to help us purchase a new plane so we can keep flying animals to areas around the country in need of adoptable pets. Your donation will go towards saving the lives of thousands of dogs and cats each year as they get their “WINGS” to freedom on their new plane thanks to each and every one of you.
