Hi! My name is Maria and I am a mother of two wonderful children in Winona, MN. Chloe is 3 years old and Clyde is 18 months. Chloe is seen in my profile picture after her own climb to the top of our bluff overlooking Winona. She does a great job demonstrating how I felt overcoming postpartum depression and anxiety twice! The first was a long hard struggle on my own and the second with help. A huge difference! After viewing the documentary titled, "The dark side of the full moon" on postpartum depression, I have become inspired to help raise awareness in our area on the issue. I realized how much less support and information I recieved by being silent. I recognized my ability to help improve our local standard of care and how I can help other women get through it. I have since started facilitating a peer support group for perinatal mood disorders in our local hospital and am leading this public event to support families in my area. Raising awareness and peer support are very important to me because I don't think I would have found the strength to ask for help if it weren't for my friend sharing her struggle and treatment sucess with me. I am excited to do The Climb for postpartum depression and hope many of my friends, family and community will join the cause during our local Steam Boat Days Weekend!
