EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
Friends and Fam!
On Sunday, November 3, I'll be running my first marathon ever. For those who know me, you know I'm not a runner, but I'm thrilled (and pretty nervous) to be running 26.2 miles in this year's NYC marathon. I've been training for the past few months, running a half-marathon in San Diego (see pics), and joining a local running group. All I have to do now before completing this crazy physical endeavor is raise $3000 for a terrific charity called WITNESS. Yes, that's also a lot to fundraise, but I hope you can find a couple of bucks (out of pity, sympathy, or both?!) to support this once-in-a-lifetime goal. You can read more about WITNESS the non-profit below. I really appreciate your help, and expect a handwritten card (possibly lined with tears from the finish line) with your support.
WITNESS has been using the power of video and storytelling for 20 years to open the eyes of the world to human rights abuses. It was co-founded in 1992 by musician and human rights advocate Peter Gabriel, Human Rights First and the Reebok Human Rights Foundation. WITNESS empowers human rights defenders to use video to fight injustice, and to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools that can pressure those in power or with power to act. By bringing often unseen images and seldom heard stories to the attention of key decision makers, the media, and the public, WITNESS catalyzes grassroots activism, political engagement, and lasting change.
