"WITNESS empowers human rights defenders to use video to fight injustice, and to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools that can pressure those in power or with power to act. By bringing often unseen images and seldom heard stories to the attention of key decision makers, the media, and the public–WITNESS catalyzes grassroots activism, political engagement, and lasting change." I saw them in action with Burma Issues (a local NGO) on the Thai-Burma border, where they trained people affected by conflict in Karen State to document their stories. This is really important work, and they do it all over the world. It's a very professionally run organization, and you can be sure that your money is being put to good use. Even if you don't donate, have a look at their website: www.witness.org. But please do donate, or this could be more embarrassing than it needs to be.
