BENEFITING: Wellness In The Schools Inc
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
Make a difference in the lives of thousands of children by supporting the Wellness in the Schools (WITS) ING New York City Marathon Team as they fundraise for healthier food and fitness programming in public schools.
This year WITS has seen unprecedented growth: We are now in 50 NYC public schools, 12 schools in eastern Kentucky, and have launched the revolution in three Florida pilot schools. WITS has been named World Diabetes Day Champions by the International Diabetes Foundation; Food Revolution Heroes by Chef Jamie Oliver; and Lunchbox Heroes by Renegade Lunch Lady, Chef Ann Cooper.
By supporting the WITS marathon team you can become part of the school food revolution and help us provide much-needed food and fitness programming in high-poverty public schools.
Here is where the money will go:
With $4,500 in donations, you can get a school a salad bar.
$250 will buy equipment for a school's Coach For Kids Program
$25 will buy a school's olive oil for a month, $200 for a year's supply
$750 will sponsor a hands on cooking and nutrition demonstration in the classrooms of a WITS school.
$1000 will buy grass fed beef for 1,000 lunches
$1,000 will buy a water jet
$15,000 will sponsor a trained coach in the recess yard for a year, promoting games and activites and preventing bullying.
$30,000 will get a trained WITS chef in a school for a year making from-scratch food. That's about $50 per child. Most WITS schools have over 70% below the poverty line.
