BENEFITING: Wellness In The Schools Inc
ORGANIZER: Wellness In The Schools Inc
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
My name is Michael Caine, and thanks for stopping by!
I've been running for 6 years now, and the ING NYC Marathon will be my 3rd marathon. I'm excited that this time, I will be running for a cause. I'm excited to say that for the NYC Marathon I am running to raise money for Wellness In The Schools!
I've worked in the food industry for 19 years, and over that time I've worked with a mix of healthy, and the not so healthy. I was never concerned about what I ate or served until I began running. I changed my diet and started exercising and I've since dropped 65 pounds. But even that didn't open my eyes to the reality of how food impacts Americans until my daughter entered the school system. She brought home the school's menu and I was able to see what was in her "nutritionally balanced" meals. Chicken patties, tacos, and pizza.
Ending the epidemic of obesity starts with the education of our children, and showing them what a healthy lifestyle looks like.
Please donate to WITS and help make healthy eating, environmental awareness and fitness a way of life for children across the county.
You can also visit http://www.nycharities.org/donate/c_donate.asp?CharityCode=3375 to give directly to WITS (please put Michael Caine NYC Marathon in the 'Designate your donation to a specific program or fund if you use this option' field).
Make a difference in the lives of thousands of children by supporting the Wellness in the Schools (WITS) ING New York City Marathon Team as they fundraise for healthier food and fitness programming in public schools.
This year WITS has seen unprecedented growth: We are now in 36 NYC public schools, 12 schools in eastern Kentucky, and preparing to bring the revolution to Florida. This year WITS was named World Diabetes Day Champions by the International Diabetes Foundation; Food Revolution Heroes by Chef Jamie Oliver; and Lunchbox Heroes by Renegade Lunch Lady, Chef Ann Cooper.
By supporting the WITS marathon team you can become part of the school food revolution and support much-needed food and fitness programming in high-poverty public schools.
