Women in India: Improving Income, Health, and Education
Organized by: Kelly White
EVENT DATE Jul 20, 2014
This summer I will be traveling to rural India for six weeks to volunteer at a non-profit organization called BIRDS.
This fundraiser will help to cover expenses of the trip including but not limited to:
- Round-trip flights to India ~$2,000
- Room and board ~$20-30 per day
- Translator ~$100
- Vaccinations (Malaria, Rabies, Typhoid, antibiotics, etc.) ~$500
- Supplies (Malaria prevention bug net, punjabis-traditional Indian clothing, DEET, sunscreen, etc.) ~$200
- VISA ~$95
Only 16% of women in India exercise safe menstrual hygiene practices (significantly fewer in rural areas).
In India I will be contributing to the development of programs to provide sustainable economic stability to widowed women, and facilitate menstrual hygiene educational programs for school-aged women, in turn increasing the likeliness of their educational success.
Please feel free to contact me for more information!
Thank you so much for all your support!
