BENEFITING: HOT BREAD KITCHEN LTD
Who We Serve
Around the world women bake the bread and cook the food, however, in the U.S., immigrant women hold less than 8% of professional baking positions. Despite rich food cultures and culinary talent, immigrant women are one of the most vulnerable groups in the workforce. With limited English fluency, formal education or professional networks, immigrant women are often relegated to low-wage positions in the informal sector.
How We're Breaking the Cycle of Poverty for Immigrant Women
Hot Bread Kitchen enables these women to leverage skill and passion in the culinary arts to become professional bakers and food business owners. We provides paid baking training, English classes and professional skills classes to help immigrant women formalize their culinary skills and access professional opportunities. To fund their training, women produce a line of international breads inspired by their countries of origin that are sold throughout NYC. Our ultimate goal is to be sustained through bread sales and to change the face of the culinary industry.
How You Can Help
Through the Women Bake Bread Scholarship Campaign, we aim to raise $100,000 to support the training of 17 women. Support immigrant women in building economic security and diversifying the food industry by launching a fundraiser, or donating to this page!
