BENEFITING: WOMEN ORGANIZED TO MAKE ABUSE NON EXISTENT INC
EVENT: Purple Purse Challenge
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2015
As domestic violence has long-time been an issue close to my heart, the idea of getting involved with an anti-violence agency really resonated with me. I knew the moment I read W.O.M.A.N., Inc.’s mission statement that this was an organization I wanted to join. As a volunteer and now as a staff member, being a part of this organization has been nothing short of an amazing experience.
Only having been with W.O.M.A.N, Inc. for about a year, I have already learned so much. From the 40 hour domestic violence training, to taking calls on the support line and working with staff and volunteers, each experience has fostered personal growth and strengthened my love for this emotionally taxing, but gratifying work. Applying has easily been one of the best decisions I have ever made and I can’t speak more highly of this organization and the people involved.
I feel so fortunate to be apart of such a vibrant, altruistic, and supportive group of advocates dedicated not only to supporting those impacted by domestic violence, but also dedicated to learning and unlearning, speaking up against oppressive systems, developing the art of "calling in" instead of "calling out" and promoting intersectional feminism. Every day in my involvement with them reminds me that there really are wonderful people out there who care deeply about the world around them and the people in it.
