The Final Week
October 24, 2017
BENEFITING: Women's Resource Center
EVENT DATE: Oct 01, 2017
The number one hurdle faced by domestic violence victims when they prepare to leave is money. Abusers use fear and money to paralyze their victims and create the sense that they have no means of escape. They show up to workplaces, threaten coworkers, cause injuries that impede work, and many other tactics until more often than not the victim quits and is dependant upon the abuser for money. Difficulties finding housing and a job is one of the leading reasons victims will return if they have left.
With the help of the funds WRC has raised the last two years in the Purple Purse Challenge we have been able to assist survivors in clearing those hurdles. Paying for certification, car trouble, uniforms, and the many other financial burdens that pop up during the process of rebuilding has been a blessing to many of our clients. Over the last few years we have seen them fullfill dreams of becoming a graphic artist, CNA's, Bio-chemistry major, and more.
