One in three Puerto Rican women are, or have been, a victim of domestic violence. We are running a half marathon (13.1 miles) in San Juan, Puerto Rico and have decided make it a fundraiser to advocate for la paz - peace - in the home. All funds raised will go to the Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos (Julia Burgos Shelter), a safe house for women and children in San Juan.
Although we are obviously big advocates for peace for all women and all humanity, we thought it would be appropriate to support this organization that provides a safe place for women and their children when they need help the most. You can help by contributing whatever is meaningful to you, whether that's $1, $10 or $100! Check out the nifty bar above to see how close we are to our goal of $1,310. If you're really feeling it, you can "join our team" and do your own fundraiser on behalf of this project - think bake sale, special yoga class... or whatever other creative idea you can come up with! Click the Join the Team button on the right for more info.
We will be running the half marathon on Sunday, November 13, but will be taking contributions to this project through Thanksgiving weekend when we return. No dinero will ever be in our hands, so you can feel confident that your donation will go directly to la Casa Protegida via this nifty Crowd Rise site.
MUCHAS GRACIAS for helping us to raise awareness and support for women, for humanity, for La PAZ!
