THE STORY:
Rpga Studio Inc wrote -
Women Who Build - Artists Who Own is about empowering women and girls to work together and learn to build!
We are raising money to help fund the costs of materials including:
- trailer $5,000
- frame & flooring $5,000
- plumbing & electrical $3,000
- roofing & windows $2,000
Volunteer and Executive Director Yvonne Shortt is raising $10,000 while fellow volunteers and participants will raise the additional $5,000.
On Saturday morning, May 6th 2017 we'll be hosting a 5K for $5K in Forest Park, Queens - accessible via the E/F lines. Please consider donating to the cause, signing-up to walk/run with us, or choosing to join our campaign and committing to raising $100!
More info about the project (+link):
Participants gain confidence in using power tools, expand their networks, and learn how to build. After the tiny house is built, it will travel the 5 boroughs with participants in the project discussing innovative strategies people are taking to deal with higher rent/workspace costs, lower wages, and community empowerment. From October until May women are volunteering and sharing their skills to help raise funding for the project, make sure other like-minded women know about the project, and gain the vital construction skills necessary to ensure the success of the project.
Building starts on May 29, 2017 and follows the schedule below:
Week 1: Subfloor framing and sheathing (alone)
Week 2: Wall framing and sheathing, doors and windows, exterior siding
Week 3: Roofing, electrical and plumbing
Week 4: Interior siding, trim
Week 5: Flooring, end electrical
