THE STORY:

I am doing a 5K to raise $10,000 for Women Who Build - Artists Who Own project, a project under a tiny local non profit I started called RPGA Studio.

Women Who Build - Artists Who Own is about empowering women and girls to work together and learn to build over 8 months! The program is free and we have people from 16 to 60+.  It is open to all willing to work together. and everyone is contributing through work they are doing on various teams from skill building to marketing. Each of us is taking responsibility to learn, share, and grow.

I am empowering myself to push through the fear to gain knowledge and build community.

I am doing this as a collaborative build because I know that when other like minded people help we all learn and grow.

To learn more or sign up to participate go herehttps://www.meetup.com/NYC-Tiny-Housebuild-Empowering-Women-Girls-Meetup/events/236963309/

After the tiny house is built it will be used as a mobil education facility to teach designand construction skills to women and share how others are developing creative solutions to pay for housing/workspaces.

100 percent of your donation is going toward

- trailer $5,000

- frame & flooring $5,000

- plumbing & electrical $3,000

Additional Information

Participants gain confidence in using power tools, expand their networks, and learn how to build. After the tiny house is built, it will travel the 5 boroughs with participants in the project discussing innovative strategies people are taking to deal with higher rent/workspace costs, lower wages, and community empowerment.

From October until May women are volunteering and sharing their skills to help raise funding for the project, make sure other like-minded women know about the project, and gain the vital construction skills necessary to ensure the success of the project.

Building starts on May 29, 2017 and follows the schedule below:

Week 1: Subfloor framing and sheathing (alone)

Week 2: Wall framing and sheathing, doors and windows, exterior siding

Week 3: Roofing, electrical and plumbing

Week 4: Interior siding, trim

Week 5: Flooring, end electrical
