THE STORY:
I am running the Detroit Half Marathon in support of the Akha orphans in Thailand. I am so excited to be part of this opportunity. Ten years ago, our church built the Akha House of Light Orphanage in Thailand for children who would otherwise be swept into the sex trafficking trade in Bangkok. Currently, the physical, educational and spiritual needs of over 60 children are met in a loving Christian environment. However, the need is great to continue protecting children at risk and those already in the trafficking trade.
I am not a long distance runner. My longest prior race was a 10K, and that was decades (five children, one grandchild) ago. But earlier this year, I had the privilege of meeting the children during their visit to our church, and it would have been impossible to walk away unmoved by their stories. My husband and I are blessed to assist in the support of two (a seven year old girl—Pailen, and an eleven year old boy—Nuttawut). I am very late to join the race. My goal is to raise $1,000 for the orphanage. I would greatly appreciate your prayers for these children, and any contribution that you feel moved to make on their behalf.
God Bless You, Anne Hallahan
