BENEFITING: VICENTE FERRER FOUNDATION USA INC
When Lakshmi Devi was only one, her legs and right arm stopped working because of polio. She had to overcome many barriers to become what she is today -- fearless, and a strong voice for people with disabilities in rural South India. Neighbors flock to her small store to buy candy, spices, and other household goods.
Join us to help others like Lakshmi learn job skills, build businesses, and become leaders in their communities. A community self-help group in Anantapur (a district in the state of Andhra Pradesh) is facing difficult barriers to employment as a result of the physical and mental disabilities of its members. Help us raise $15,000 to provide this 17-member group with training, start-up capital, and support today!
In India, an estimated 2% of the population has some form of disability. Yet, people with disabilities are still not fully recognized within families or society. Through our programs, the Vicente Ferrer Foundation has improved the quality of life of more than 30,000 people with disabilities. VFF helps address their needs for rehabilitation, medical services, and schools. It also develops community self-help groups so that high-functioning people with disabilities, like Lakshmi, can become productive -- and recognized -- members of society.
We thank you for helping us further our programs for this vulnerable population!
