99% of Domestic Violence survivors experience financial abuse which is one of the most powerful methods for keeping a survivor trapped in an abusive situation. According to the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), “survivors often find themselves unable to secure stable housing because their credit scores are too low, or that their abusers have taken out credit cards in their names and depleted their savings accounts.”
Our MoneyW!SE program has helped more than 500 Domestic Violence Survivors develop emotional and financial well-being.
The MoneyW!SE program provides a safe environment for DV survivors to learn about personal finance. The program provides transportation, childcare and a light dinner for them and their children to remove potenial obstacles to attending. The 12-week course culminates in the MoneyW!SE Financial Literacy Certification Test, survivors who pass become Certified Financially Literate leading them on a path to financial independence.
“The program was great and planned well. I learned a lot about financial planning from my teacher. I am satisfied to know I learned how to budget and understand budget planning again after living through domestic violence. Thanks!”
– Student from the Bronx Spring 2017 Class
