The Bonobo Conservation Initiative (BCI) is teaming up with the Bonobo Project to celebrate the very first World Bonobo Day on February 14, 2017! Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to honor bonobos, renowned for their loving and peaceful ways. You can help these endangered great apes today by contributing toward our fundraising goal!
BCI is dedicated to protecting wild bonobos in their native Congo rainforest habitat. We are hard at work growing the Bonobo Peace Forest, a concept developed in cooperation with local communities and organizations. This community-managed network of reserves addresses conservation and humanitarian needs simultaneously, preserving vast areas of rainforest (9 million acres and counting!) and providing vital services and economic opportunities for indigenous people. The Peace Forest is creating a brighter future for all residents of the Congo rainforest, human and bonobo alike.
The Kokolopori Bonobo Reserve is our pilot and model site, spanning over 1.2 million acres and providing inspiration for other reserves throughout the Peace Forest. This World Bonobo Day, your donation of $14 (or multiples of $14) can help support the Kokolopori trackers and ecoguards who defend bonobos every day. They are the true boots-on-the-ground heroes of the forest. They protect against poaching and they collect vital information about bonobos--some of the veteran trackers are participating in groundbreaking bonobo research with scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology!
$14 can buy batteries for headlamps and GPS units. $28? A sturdy pair of boots. $504? A field laptop kit. We need you to keep their work going strong.
Bonobos love to collaborate, and so do we! Many thanks to the Bonobo Project for spearheading World Bonobo Day, and many thanks to YOU for your support!
