THE STORY:

The goal of this fundraiser is to help raise monetary donations to help send Wounded Warrior and retired US Army Staff Sergeant Benjamin Breckheimer to the world's highest peaks with Mountain Gurus.

*All donations will go towards the cost of the expedition, to include climbing permits, flight itinerary, gear, oxygen, food, guides and all Sherpa and porters.

On September 13, 2009, SSG Breckheimer's life would be forever changed. While on his second deployment, SSG Breckheimer was Wounded In Action (WIA) while on duty when the Stryker Reconnaissance Vehicle he was driving hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). He was medically evacuated to Kandahar Airfield to recieve life and limb saving surgery before being evacuated back to the United States at Brooke Army Medical Center.

The wounds he sustained included a concussion, perforated right eardrum, L5/S1 vertebrae fractures, right pelvic fracture, bilateral femur fractures and a partially severed lower right leg which was saved through limb salvage.

After four long years of not only physical recovery, but battling depression, PTSD and thoughts of suicide, Benjamin has made it his life goal to not only climb Mount Everest, but the infamous 7 Summits to prove he can still physically live his dreams and find purpose in his life.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Benjamin Breckheimer joined the US Army Reserves in 2002 as an MIlitary Occupational Specialty (MOS) of a 68D, Operating Room Specialist with the 452nd Combat Support Hospital out of Milwaukee, WI. He attended Basic Combat Training (BCT) at Fort Benning, Georgia and follwed up with his first phase Advanced Individual Training (AIT) to Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Upon successful completion of AIT Phase I, he then went to Fort Campbell, Kentucky for his second phase.

In July of 2005, Benjamin decided to join the Active Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and worked in the operating room at Brooke Army Medical Center. Immediatly upon arrival at his duty assignment, he volunteered for deployment to Iraq and became PROFIS to the 10th Combat Support Hospital out of Fort Carson, Colorado. In October 2005, he was deployed with the 10th CSH for a year long tour to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and worked at Ibn Sina Hospital's operating room in the Green Zone.

In February 2007, Benjamin was selected above his peers to take part in a two week long humanitarian aide to Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

After Benjamin returned from Honduras, he decided to do an MOS reclassification to a 19D, Cavalry Scout. He reported to Fort Knox, Kentucky as prior service to complete Phase II of One Station Unit Training (OSUT). After he completed OSUT, Benjamin was assigned to Commanche Troop, 8th Sqaudron, 1st Cavalry Regiment 5th Brigade 2nd Infantry Division Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) where he was assigned as a driver.

In July, 2009 Benjamin was deployed to Afghanistan as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and just a couple months into his tour, the Stryker vehicle he was driving was hit by an IED.

-In July 2013 Benjamin began his new love of mountaineering by taking a Mountaineering Expedition Course on Mount Baker, Washington at 10,781ft (3286m) with Mountain Gurus. He did not successfully summit due to physical complications.

-In July 2013 Benjamin attempted Mount Rainier in Washington at 14,409ft (4392m). He did not succesfully summit due to physical complications.

-On August 1st, 2014 at 1024am SSG Benjamin Breckheimer completed his first of the 7 Summits by summitting The Europe's Highest Mountain at 18,510ft (5642m), Mt. Elbrus. (While on the summit of Mt. Elbrus, Benjamin tossed his wedding ring off the summit. He vowed to do it on Mt. Everest, but after 4 years of dealing with divorce he decided that was the perfect time to finally let-go.) Here's to new beginnings!
