BENEFITING: CORNELIA CONNELLY CENTER
With your help, Writopia will run after-school creative writing workshops at CCC for 10 weeks, beginning in Spring 2014. At a Writopia workshop, students enjoy individual attention, fun writing games, new ways to share and collaborate, and, best of all, the satisfaction of completing well-crafted, original stories with the help of a published author.
Our goal is to raise $1,550 to be able to run this workshop in the spring. Every donation matters so give what you can and spread the word!
Here's why Writopia is so special:
Writopia Lab is a national community of young writers, ages 6-18. Founded in New York City in 2007, Writopia Lab has now spread to Greater New York; Greater Washington, DC; Los Angeles; and Chicago. Writopia Lab is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that fosters joy, literacy, and critical thinking in children and teens from all backgrounds through creative writing. Writopia’s teens win more writing awards each year than any other group of students in the country.
A Writopia author and an assistant teacher will run this after-school workshop. The participating young writers will be included in all Writopia events, they will be invited to read excerpts from their final works at public readings, and their plays will be produced as part of their annual Worldwide Plays Festival. Writopia will oversee the productivity and success of this workshop, and foster long-term relationships with interested participants, providing opportunities for scholarships to interested CCC students for future workshops at Writopia Lab.
