THE STORY:

As of January 13, 2013, the total number of service members Wounded in Action was 50,409 according to the US Casualty Report.  In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members suffer from combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Our nation’s veterans, especially our wounded warriors, have given so much to all of us.  Now is our chance to give back to them this holiday season.  Studies show that participation in adaptive sports decrease stress, reduce dependency on pain and depression medication, decrease secondary medical conditions, and promote higher achievement in education and employment for veterans (US Department of Veterans Affairs).  World Sport Chicago is honored to partner with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, U.S. Paralympics and the Chicago Park District to invest in the health and wellbeing of our nation’s heroes through The Valor Games and other community based programs.

The Valor Games Midwest provides three days of camaraderie and Paralympic sport competition for disabled and injured veterans from 22 States. World Sport Chicago's service to veterans extends into the community as we support community organizations to provide ongoing adaptive sports opportunities to hundreds of local veterans and service members throughout the year.
