I’ve been looking to run the Boston Marathon for the last several years, but didn’t want to run it as a “bandit” without a legitimate number. So I’m pleased to be running in 2013 to benefit Wake Up Narcolepsy. I have two marathons under my belt, and my goal is to finish Boston in less than four hours.
I’ve been running ever since I can remember, but I’ve never had much coaching. I just like to run. About seven years ago, I started running 5 and 10Ks for fun and charity. My top 5K time is 20:18 in a friend's Angiosarcoma awareness race in Oxford, MA, in 2011. I worked my way up to half marathons, of which my best time is 1:37, before running my first marathon in October 2011 in 4:10.
In October 2012, the week before Hurricane Sandy struck the New Jersey coast, I ran in the Atlantic City Marathon in 4:09:02, so I’m making progress toward my 4:00 goal.
We all face obstacles in life, and I'm sure I've overcome some, but I don't really think of my life that way. I've been extremely lucky as far as my health goes, and I’m happy to be running Boston to help the many people who are unfortunately living with narcolepsy.
The more I learn about this sleep disorder, the more I appreciate the work of Wake Up Narcolepsy to raise awareness and generate funding to find a cure. I hope you’ll support my goal of helping.
