From Nathan's Mom:
Nathan has a skeletal malformation, so the biggest challenge is living in a world that isn’t truly accessible. We face obstacles every day, and we figure them out as we go. Nathan has a shunt that could fail; he has aches and pains, but kids learn to deal with them because there’s really no other way. As he gets older, he’ll realize “I can’t really do that.” All of his brothers play sports, but Nathan isn’t able to. As a family, we don’t go to the park as much, and we avoid certain activities, so his wish to meet John Cena would be a wish for all of us.
Nathan thinks he’s indestructible – he thinks he’s going to get in the ring and wrestle John Cena. Nathan is the youngest of four boys, and they’ve been watching wrestling matches together for years. My husband is a huge wrestling fan and used to be a wrestler, which is what spurned Nathan’s interest in WWE. Nathan knows all of the Superstars but he relates to John the most because, as he says, “he’s a good guy and strong. He never cheats.” Plus, he has a great theme song! For his birthday this year, Nathan got one of those life-size John Cena action figures, and he brings it with him everywhere now. We went on a family vacation to the beach, and it came with us. He loves telling people “John Cena came on vacation with us!” Nathan plays with that action figure so much that one of its legs broke off.
