BENEFITING: Dollars for Change
In the summer of 2015, our study abroad group from Western Washington University travelled to Kurland Village, a small township about six hours from Cape Town, South Africa. Part of our volunteer efforts involved working with "The Social Club", which offers supplemental education and support to children in the village. It was initiated by a US-based organization, Dollars for Change. A large percentage of families in Kurland are significantly impacted by domestic violence, alcoholism, HIV/AIDS, and chronic poverty. The Social Club programs are designed to empower the community's youth to address these challenges, and have an active role in facilitating positive and lasting change. Our WWU group recognized the importance and effectiveness of this program and hopes you join us in continuing our support for The Social Club, as it creates jobs, cultivates change, and assists children in acheiving successful futures.
Our goal is to raise enough money to sustain The Social Club for one year, including the costs of staffing and professional development. All funds raised here go directly to The Social Club.
