Xander's Going to Haiti
Organized by: Lyndsay Hughes
Would you want to live in poverty? There are people everywhere who don’t feel loved, who are lacking in hope and worry so much about survival that they never stop to think about their potential. I want to do something about it, and am ready to start the process. This summer, my dad (Jon) and I have the opportunity to go with Community Christian Church and Compassion International to Haiti from June 8-14, 2016 and begin to find ways that God can use me to help.
An example of this poverty is devastation that still exists today as a result of an earthquake in 2010 that measured 7.0 on the Richter scale. In this disaster, approximately 160,000 people died and 1.5 million people lost their homes because their houses are stacked like building blocks up a hill. While we may be able to do something to help people while we are there, what I am really excited about is the opportunity to bring back what I have learned and make a difference not only in my life but through the lives of others.
We will be hosted by Compassion International, the leading organization in the world regarding the alleviation of extreme poverty long-term and helping people make decisions for Christ. They have much to teach us about serving with the poor and about helping people find their way back to God. I know that with the help of Community Christian Church, my life will be impact others. I hope that you can help me to be on mission in Haiti.
As you can imagine a trip like this requires the financial support of a great number of people. I need to raise $2,000 and I have committed to contributing $200 on my own. While money is important, it comes in a distant second to my need for your prayer support. I would love to know if I could count on you in that area.
Please pray daily for those working through Compassion International, for the people of Haiti and that God can use this experience to help me better serve Him.
Thanks for impacting my life,
