BENEFITING: Children's Tumor Foundation
After completing the NYC Marathon last year with a fractured knee and the Kauai half marathon in 2015 I was so touched by the question and concerns of people I trained with and met along the way that I have decided to run the NYC Half Marathon in 2017 to spread more awareness for neurofibromatosis. My 8 Year old daughter suffers daily from the effects of brain and spinal tumors as well as learning difficulties associated with Neurofibromatosis or NF. 1 in 3000 births has NF, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, for which there is no cure...yet. In the past 7 years Persephone has undergone regular MRIs to monitor the growth of tumors in her brain, optic nerves and spine as well as regular occupational and speech therapy to deal with developmental and learning challenges. Despite living with this disease, Persephone has an incredibly positive and contagious spirit, bringing love and light into the lives of her family and friends. Please support us in our efforts to give to the Children's Tumor Foundation, which has provided so much support to our family over the years, and to end NF.
