THE STORY:

One of the most basic tools of modern health care is the x-ray. Since its discovery just over a century ago, x-ray technology has either improved -- or in many cases saved -- the lives of millions of people around the world.

District 6440’s goal is simple: Make sure poor people around the world have access to x-ray technology – a basic health care tool – starting with the rural poor in one country, Guatemala, and expanding the effort to other countries.
To achieve this ambitious goal, Rotary leaders in the District have created an exciting new template for action in Guatemala that combines traditional hands-on volunteer strategies with multi-sector, multi-organization partnerships – leveraging the potential power and energy of Rotary District-level projects far beyond their previous scope.

The District’s Digital X-Ray Project is based in a unique memorandum of understanding (MOU) that formalizes a partnership between District 6440, Guatemala’s District 4250, Guatemala’s Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, the Radiological Society of Guatemala and the Pan American Health Organization. The MOU was signed in May 2013. For more information please contact: Pam Kerr gov.pam@rotary6440.org
