Media Works: $500 will send one young person to 4 weeks of Media Camp
Y Media Works is a digital media initiative that connects local youth to the processes of media development. The program includes a Summer Media Institute based at the Boll Family YMCA, as well as year-round in-school and after-school classes at area YMCAs. Media Works engages youth in areas they are already interested in, marrying creativity and technology to help them find their voices. Additionally, participants work side by side with professional artists/mentors who by example show the many possibilities of creative careers.
Pottery at Boll: $100 provides a Potter’s Wheel class for 10 kids
Every Saturday at the Boll Family YMCA, Y Arts hosts pottery classes for youth and adults. These classes are open to both members of the YMCA as well as non-members and are a great way to experience the one-of-a-kind tactile and creative experience of working with clay. Part of our mission at Y Arts is to make quality arts experiences accessible to the community by eliminating barriers such as cost. Therefore we keep the price of the class very low, but even that amount can be challenging for some families.
Art in Schools: $50 provides supplies for an 8 week art class
Remember the impact your first arts experience had on you? Imagine if your school or community had been unable to provide you with that great experience because of a lack in funding. Our Art in Schools program provides arts programming in schools, alternative schools, and adjudicated youth facilities that might not otherwise have any enrichment options. Your gift will help us supply our teachers and their students with the necessary tools for creativity. Every dollar donated to the Y Arts has a lasting impact on the people of the DETROIT ARTS COMMUNITY. Give today for a better us.
