BENEFITING: OPERATION OPPORTUNITY FOUNDATION
Yale Football raises funds to help veterans transition from the military to college.
Members of the Yale Football team volunteered for the first ever Warrior-Scholar Project last summer. Coach Reno and the 2013 Yale Football team look to raise money to help fund The Warrior-Scholar Project 2013 – a two-week “academic boot camp” designed to help veterans transition from the military to college.
Last summer, the team helped tutor the veterans, engaged in talks about college life, advised on study habits, played a touch football game in the Yale Bowl, and in return learned invaluable life lessons on what it means to be involved in something greater than yourself. The Yale Football tradition of serving those who have served our country started with linebacker Jesse Reising ’11 and lives on in Yale football 2013.
Yale Football has been instrumental to the Warrior-Scholar Project through their support in both operations and fundraising. - Chistopher Howell, Co-Founder & Executive Director Warrior Scholar Project. Former Australian Army Special Operations Soldier.
The team is excited to be apart of the Warrior-Scholar Project 2013.
Veterans not only have the potential to succeed in college, but to be leaders in the classroom. The Warrior-Scholar Project seeks to unlock that potential.
Typically, veterans arrive on campus after having spent several months or years in combat away from any sort of academic environment, they are unfamiliar with the college landscape, and they are thrown into a sea of 18- and 19-year-olds who are fresh out of high school. Unfortunately, these academic, cultural, and social challenges often lead to veterans dropping out of college before earning their degree.

The sights and sounds [of the Warrior-Scholar Project] are a distant echo, but the memories and the lessons learned ring loud and clear every day
The Warrior-Scholar Project has been the most valuable educational experience of my lifetime
Some may claim this was an intellectual beating; I agree, but on the positive
