EVENT DATE: Mar 07, 2014

Yale School of Public Health

THE STORY:

WHO WE ARE:

We are a group of graduate students at the Yale School of Public Health that care tremendously about sustainable global health initiatives.  We are raising funds to support our 2014 mission trip to Honduras.  During this time, a group of students will work with World Vision to support their current health initiatives in the area.

WHAT WE DO:

Yale HealthCORE has been dedicated to improving health in impoverished countries in Latin America for over ten years. Armed with public health and medical training and a strong sense of determination, graduate students from across Yale's professional health schools spend their spring break working on sustainable health initiatives in Latin America. Past projects have included the following:

- Reproductive health education for children, adolescents and adults through a variety of interactive, small-group discussions

- Dental hygiene campaigns for elementary school children along with provision of dental supplies

- Supporting local reforestation efforts

- Refurbishing the local health clinic with medical supplies and health information through ongoing communications with the community physician

- Identifying the extent of water contamination and developing alternative methods of water purification
