PHILADELPHIA YOUTH FOR CHANGE wrote -Has a travel experience impacted your view of the world? Can you imagine never having the opportunity to explore beyond the city where you were born? At YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School, many of our students — 18-21 year-old former high school dropouts — have never traveled beyond state or even city limits.
You can help provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for up to 20 of these young people to experience a new culture, environment, and language by supporting YouthBuild's 5th Annual Service Learning Trip.
Service learning is a core component of YouthBuild Philly's comprehensive program. Students earn their diplomas through a rigorous blend of academics, vocational training, and community service. Past trips to Guatemala, Costa Rica, and the Gulf Coast included service immersion projects such as endangered species preservation, beach clean-ups,
and home building projects.
This year, YouthBuild Philly students and staff plan to travel to a small town in Puerto Rico where they will volunteer at an organic coffee farm, while also exploring the local community and engaging in cultural exchange activities.
To help make this trip possible, we are asking supporters to sponsor a student or staff chaperone.
- $1200 donation will cover all expenses for one student, including airfare, meals, lodging, and materials for the service project.
- $400 donation will allow a student to take their first ever plane ride!
- $150 donation will cover meals for the week for one student.
- $50 donation will pay for one day and night in Puerto Rico.
