BENEFITING: YMCA OF CENTRAL AND NORTHERN WESTCHESTER INC
EVENT DATE: Aug 16, 2013
The White Plains YMCA Strong Kids Campaign provides financial assistance to children and families in need. In 2013, over $140,000 will be raised enabling children to attend camp, after-school and pre-school as well as providing assistance so individuals can participate in programs and membership. The YMCA is here for the community and believes everyone should have the opportunity to grow and achieve a healthier and happier lifestyle.
The White Plains YMCA trekking team consists of nine individuals. With the help of the Dublin-based Camino Experts, Follow the Camino, this group will all be a part of a once-in-a-lifetime adventure on the Camino de Santiago also known as the Way of St James, a 1000 year old Heritage Trail to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. Every team member will have a unique personal experience, but together, we will all be raising money for the YMCA.
One team member, Margie Chu-Montalbano, will be trekking the entire trail (5-weeks, 500+ miles). Margie will be starting in France on 08/16/2013 and will meet up with the group in Spain on 09/16/2013. Margie will be on the adventure of a lifetime that will impact her and the Y greatly.
On 09/16/13, the remainder of the team will join Margie and begin their trek. All nine team members will spend 10-days walking approximately 12-miles per day to complete the last 127 miles of the French Way before arriving in Santiago de Compostela, where they will receive an official pilgrimage certificate having completed sections 7 and 8.
Your encouragement, motivation and support is greatly appreciated!
