THE STORY:

Zoe, Meara, and Kyleigh won first place in the instant challenge and second place in the technical challenge for middle schools at the New York State Tournament of Destination Imagination. Now on to the Global Finals, which will include students from around the world! Only two middle school teams from New York State in the Technical category get to go to the Finals, so this is an amazing accomplishment!

Destination Imagination is an educational program where student teams solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. In working to solve the Challenges, the teams learn important life skills like time management, collaboration, conflict resolution, and creative and critical thinking. The program encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus, and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts, and service learning. We participated in the Technology (STEM) competition.

They participated in the Technical Challenge, this year entitled Creature Feature. The idea was to create a creature and have it interact in a narrated story of adventure. In one of the team members words: Our team, the Yellow Ninja Wolves, built a remote control yellow ninja wolf. It moves, opens and closes its mouth, wags its tail, and barks. The yellow ninja wolf is the main character in an imaginary world were once a year ninja wolves of all colors get together at a big convention. The yellow ninja wolf is on his way to the convention when the road he was following splits into three different paths. Each of the different paths represent different parts of his personality: the yellow part is his cheerful nature, the ninja part, and the wolf part. Looking at the different paths he decides he must turn back because he cannot choose just one part of his personality. Just as he starts to go home a rainbow path appears leading him to the convention, one that represents all the parts of his personality so he realizes he can take it.  This teaches him that he must love himself and all his personality traits. He goes on the rainbow path to the convention, which starts out with a fun dance party.

It's so important for girls to be involved with and have opportunities to be involved with STEM . Please help us help our kids get to Tennessee for this once in a lifetime opportunity. We have to make the committment in early May, so please help us by donating now! Thanks!!!
