Hi, My Lady Yen Lai! :D

It's SO awesome to hear from you. 不好意思啦, 讓您破費...
I just got your 6:56am text. For some reason, I'm getting text randomly between iPad and iPhone (not in synch). And since I seldom check my iPad, I often miss the link.

I love the present you brought me for my birthday. At first, my reaction was, oh no! I should have told people that in lieu of a present, they could contribute to my fundraising. I was so mad at myself for being too timid to tell people on the invite. Little did I know that people still brought presents. It's a good lesson though. Next time I throw a party, I'd definitely not be shy about it.

That said, I'm grateful that you poke your head and made a contribution to this campaign. Particularly, since you know very well what my financial situation is, and that did not stop you from showing your support. Actually, I had the idea to do the fundraise since my cycling training began, but I was too scared to pile on the challenge. I didn't even know if I could do the ride! I did, eventually set up the personal page on the eve I left for Taiwan, but I was still too timid to invite people during the trip. I told myself, if I come back in one piece, then there's no excuse but to follow through on my wish to advocate for HRW and give back to the organization that has taught me so much about courage and overcoming challenges.

Writing a check for a charity has always been easier for me than putting myself out there and rallying others to appreciate and support the organizations that I admire and respect. This has been another huge learning lesson for me.

After seeing your contribution, I'm suddenly more relaxed about this fundraise. Your $20 contribution has such a wonderful impact on me I can't explain it. I'm just grateful that you're my BIG sis, and that we found each other 9 years ago at Mitsuwa. HAHA, so if you don't mind, let's keep the $20 where it is, and the purse where it is. The next time we go out, it will be my treat again! I can't wait! ;-)

Love you,
