Yesi's Grad School Fund
Organized by: Yesenia Vargas
Hi everyone! My name is Yesi (alright, Yesenia, but nicknames are convenient). I'm a French and Political Science major who's just finishing up college and heading to the Annenberg School at USC to study Public Diplomacy next fall. The thing is, there's a gap between my financial aid and the cost of attending. A 48k gap. So I've turned to the internet.
The end goal here is to work in Diplomacy, and the Annenberg School is among the best for that. I've been into politics ever since I can remember. During my time at college, I've co-founded the first NOW chapter in northern Louisiana, campaigned for the LA Democratic Party, volunteered with at-risk youth, worked with a Buddhist center in Colorado, won awards at the Model Arab League regional conference, and studied abroad in Belgium and Hong Kong. I've gained fluency in French and Spanish, and am currently working on Arabic and Hebrew.
I'm particularly interested in the regions of West Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. My current research focuses on linguistic separatism, but I also have an interest in transnational criminal networks (specifically Mexican and Central American cartels), the rights of women and minorities, and indigenous language rights. I know that I can make a difference, I just need the chance.
