When I wasn’t in school as a kid, I spent my time outdoors - fishing in the neighborhood pond, building forts in the forest, playing street hockey, and camping and hiking with Boy Scouts. These experiences have been formative to my success as an adult; among so many life skills, I know patience, planning, and how to be part of a team. It’s important to me that future generations appreciate the great outdoors and develop positive attitudes toward physical play and nature. Until recently, I didn't consider myself an "athlete." Today, I know the value of physical fitness in my life. I’m fundraising and running Boston, because I believe that my ability to run should serve a purpose that’s greater than myself. I can empower others. I can fund important youth programs. Every runner wears a bib, but mine must matter to me. My race adrenaline can become the trip or equipment that will give many kids a new character-building experience, and I’m so excited to make that happen. Thank you for your support of youth development in the outdoors, and please join me to celebrate at the 26.2 mile finish line on my 26th birthday.
About Youth Enrichment Services:
YES is a non-profit organization that has been serving youth since 1968 with outdoor, sports-based, and leadership development programs. YES serves over 1,600 youth annually through its three signature programs: Operation SnowSports, Outdoor Adventure, and the YES Academy.
The mission of Youth Enrichment Services (YES) is to inspire and challenge youth with physical and mental activities that foster life-long respect for self, others, and the environment. YES accomplishes this through three tiers of programming which give youth new experiences, help youth gain confidence and leadership skills. YES aims to serve Boston-area youth, with a focus on the underserved neighborhoods of Mattapan, Roxbury and Dorchester. To learn more about YES, visit www.yeskids.org.
Team YES is running the 2017 Boston Marathon to raise funds to support YES's mission.
YES's 2016 Boston Marathon team raised over $40,000 with a team of four runners. We look forward to raising even more money for Boston youth with four new team members running for Team YES in 2017. All funds raised will be used to fund and expand after-school and outdoor programs for the Boston youth who need it most.
