BENEFITING: COLORADO EPISCOPAL FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 15, 2013
Women and children are dying in great numbers at the Yida Camp in South Sudan without basic hygiene, medicine, or midwifery care. The population is without training in health care, almost no trained doctors are available, and many deaths could be prevented if individuals could be equipped with basic knowledge.
A team from Colorado consisting of a doctor, a TV journalist, and volunteers will travel in November to deliver medicine, conduct training, documet current conditions, and prepare testimony for the State Department and other agencies. Money raised will also buy a tent, plastic chairs, and tables to be used as a gathering place and shelter for training, church services, and housing in times of need.
By providing women with basic skills and educating them, we can transform the unjust structure of our society by enabling them to care for each other and save lives in the absence of medical professionals. They will be empowered to provide loving service to their people in refugee camps, giving them hope and confidence.
