When you donate to the NORTH OAKLAND FAMILY YMCA, you make the NORTH OAKLAND COMMUNITY better through programs focused on:
Summer Day Camp
Day camp at the Y helps kids form new friendships, strengthen confidence and sharpen character. The Y is also working to close the achievement gap and reverse the trend of summer learning loss throughout Metro Detroit by including educational programs into all of our summer day camps. However, not all children have access to enriching summer experiences. The Y raises funds so everyone, regardless of income or background, has the ability to learn, grow and thrive at camp.
Girls on the Run/STRIDE
These afterschool programs use the power of running to help prepare youth for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living with interactive activities such as running, playing games and meaningful discussions culminating in a 5K run. Youth in third through eighth grades learn a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and team building skills to help them become strong and self-confident. The Y believes that
every child should have the opportunity to participate. Scholarships are awarded so that no child is turned away due to inability to pay.
The Y offers military programs specifically targeted to those who have a deployed family member. Children in these programs can make friends, and the Y provides a safe distraction as military parents are serving our country. Programs such as swimming and basketball allow these families, who move frequently, to participate in activities that are available at most Ys, thus giving a sense of routine and consistency.
Additionally, these programs will give respite to the lone parent who is taking care of all the family needs while the military parent is on duty.
100% of contributions will go directly to initiatives at the North Oakland YMCA.
