It's Marathon Weekend
May 05, 2017
BENEFITING: YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
ORGANIZER: YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
My cousin, Mary Tesch and I re-connected recently when we both learned that we share a love for long distance running. Mary's never run a marathon and I've been nervous to get back into it after being post-partum. When I was home for a work conference, Mary and I ran together and had a blast.
Since, we've been following each other and set out to run a marathon together on May 7th! And Mary is even willing to travel to Pittsburgh to run with me and meet my children for the first time!
In order to also make IMPACT with our running, we've decided to run collectively for charity. Alot of what is happening here in Pittsburgh, from a charitable perspective (bc that is what I do in my professional life), is very exciting. Pittsburgh has become one of the most happening places with state of the art hospitals, amazing universities, the second largest Google campus, Uber, and many others. But while we are thriving, the lower income families are being pushed further out and away from all that is great in Pittsburgh.
Mary and I are running for the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh to help those that are not as fortunate. Here is a little more about the Y:
The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh ("the Y") is a 501 c(3) charitable organization dedicated to nurturing the potential of every youth and teen, improving the Pittsburgh region’s health and well-being and providing opportunities to give back and support neighbors. Across the U.S., 2,700 YMCAs engage 21 million men, women, and children. Anchored in more than 10,000 communities, the Y has the long-standing relationships and physcial presence to promise and deliver lasting personal and social change.
The Y’s work is focused across three areas of priority: closing the achievement gap, eliminating health disparities, and food security and aid to financially struggling families. It has a mission to put Christian principles to practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
