Dear Friends and Family,
If you know me, you know my commitment to the YMCA of Central Kentucky and its mission work. The Y’s core mission is to promote social responsibility, healthy living, and youth development. Toward those ends, the YMCA of Central Kentucky has partnered with the YMCA of Greater Houston and the YMCA of Central New York to build a school in rural Vietnam in March, 2013. A team from each of these Y’s will join together to form a travel team to build this school, provide school supplies and uniforms, and provide general funding to assist the school’s progress.
You may view past mission trips at this website and utilize the same site to follow my March travels. http://centralkentuckyymca.blogspot.com/
While this mission trip assists both boys and girls in having a safe location for education, a primary focus will be to provide an educational opportunity for young girls who otherwise would have no ability for education or any means to better their communities and families. Our team will be located in an impoverished area of Vietnam that is very isolated, with some locations only accessible by water. This new school will help close the gap for children who at present have no educational opportunities whatsoever as no school building exists.
Consider viewing this documentary which chronicles such struggles in an area of Vietnam where we will be located at times.
I am fortunate to have been selected as part of this team and will be reporting back to my Y, my Y association, and community groups on the mission’s successes. Those familiar with my life understand that serving others benchmarks my life’s work, but I require action. I want to do, not think about doing. I want to make change happen.
This mission is self-funded. I need your support in making this mission possible and need to raise $2200.00 to travel to Vietnam and fund my portion of the school’s support by January 15, 2013. Any amount is critical and helpful and I ask you for your support in permitting our local Y to make an immense difference in the lives of these Vietnamese children. All monies are tax-deductible with 100% of the donation going to this mission. The Y’s federal tax identification number is 61-0444842. Utilize crowdrise or mail the donation to YMCA of Central Kentucky, ATTN: Vietnam 2013, 239 East High Street, Lexington, Kentucky, 40507, with my name in the memo line.
When I return from this mission in Vietnam I will share a photographic journey with all my donors documenting the journey and show you exactly what your dollars produced. Thank you in advance and feel free to write or call me with any questions.
