As some of you may know, Jon and I have been training for the 2013 Honolulu Marathon (some of us more than others) which takes place on December 8, 2013. We are looking for motivation to get us to that finish line and what motivates someone more than the support of friends and family? We thought about flying everyone to Hawaii to cheer us on, but then we woke up from our dream and remembered that we are not millionaires.
This year, please support us in our cause for helping children receive the nutritious food they need to grow into healthy adults. We feel very strongly about children having access to the healthy lifestyle they deserve and hope that this holiday season you can take just a few moments to donate to Share Our Strength, Inc. One in five children live in households that struggle to put healthy food on the table and even just $1 can help a child access 10 meals. Your donation helps Share Our Strength recruit summer meals sites, start and improve school breakfast programs, and teach families how to shop for and prepare healthy meals on a budget. It also helps provide grants to the most innovative hunger-fighting organizations across the country so that they can purchase food and supplies. Please visit www.nokidhungry.org for more information.
We are hoping to raise up to $1,000 or more for this charity by December 8th (the day of the marathon) and, to show our gratitude, we will pay it forward by matching your donation dollar for dollar in support of YogArt Kids Camp next summer. YogArt Kids Camp is a 2 week summer program for children ages 5 and up hosted by Waihuena Farm (that's the beautiful picture to the left) which is a small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm on Oahu's North Shore. The children will have fun learning yoga, creating art, learning about gardening, and cooking healthy meals. Waihuena Farm's mission is to facilitate a flourishing community whose healthy economy is nourished through ecological roots, grow food, and be a place that contributes to health and well-being. We are using the marathon as an opportunity to support this important program which aims to impart upon the children of our community the importance of a healthy diet, exercise, and overall well-being.
Please visit the websites for more information at Waihuena Farm (formerly known as Meleana's Farm) on Facebook or go to www.waihuenafarm.com. Any support will be greatly appreciated!
