BENEFITING: Saha Global
EVENT DATE: May 18, 2016
I am very excited to announce that I have recently accepted a fellowship with SahaGlobal.org (Community Water Solutions) as a Water Field Representative. Meaning this coming summer I will have the opportunity to pursue a passion of mine, as I will be spending a month in Northern Ghana working with women in rural communities to provide access to clean water and build sustainable businesses.
DID YOU KNOW?
Half of the population in Northern Ghana lacks access to clean drinking water which is the root cause of many waterborne diseases.
People living in rural communities are forced to drink directly from fecally contaminated surface water sources such as ponds and rivers, called "dugouts".
As a result, 15-25% of children under the age of five are suffering from diarrheal disease (the third leading infectious killer worldwide).
I will be training community-appointed women to use alum (a flocculant that reduces turbidity) and chlorine (a biocide) to treat the water they collect.
DONATE TO BRING CLEAN WATER TO COMMUNITIES IN NEED!
The amount you choose to donate will pay for the cost of treatment equipment such as large drums that will hold the water during various stages of the process, taps, chlorine tablets, and safe storage containers to keep the filtered water.
Once the treatment center is in place, the business is owned and operated by the trained women business owners who will sell the water for a nominal fee to their friends and neighbors.
ALL PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO: http://www.sahaglobal.org
Any help is appreciated in making this trip a reality and having a lasting impact on a community's chances for better health!
