BENEFITING: LEARNSERVE INTERNATIONAL
A college scholarship fund for children with incarcerated parents. A cross-cultural program providing travel opportunities for students of low-income families. An iPhone app that inspires random acts of kindness.
These incredible social initiatives - and hundreds of more like them - were made possible only by tapping the world's greatest natural resource: young people.
For a decade, LearnServe International has equipped students with the knowledge and skills to drive their own solutions to the most pressing local and global problems. The LearnServe Fellows - from high schools across DC, MD, and VA - meet weekly, engage with local leaders and learn core business entrepreneurship skills, including budgeting, strategic planning, and team-building. They develop and pitch their own business plans, then implement them to bring about sustainable change in their communities.
The Goal of Young Changemakers
Originating as a Fellow's venture project and annexed last year by LearnServe itself, Young Changemakers extends the keys of social entrepreneurship to the broader high school population, beyond the 70-80 students who can participate in the LearnServe Fellows program.
Meeting in or after school, Young Changemakers students participate in an adapted version of the LearnServe curriculum, facilitated by their peers. It currently operates in four high schools - two in Montgomery County, MD and two in Fairfax, VA - and has engaged over 100 students, generating 25+ venture projects addressing a vast array of issues.
Why We Need Your Support
Young Changemakers seeks to strengthen and expand its impact. We are engaging three additional high schools, launching a seed fund for kickstarting student ventures, and enlisting a stellar team of trained college volunteers - from Georgetown and George Washington University - to cofacilitate the each program.
This growth is only made possible with your help. And that help will go a long ways - both in the lives of the students and in the community around them.
Our request: $5,000.
$3,500 for Venture Seed Funds ($500 per school)
