Each night in Seattle, 700–1,000 young people have no safe place to sleep. That’s thousands of homeless youth every year — stuck in survival mode. An aspect of the survival mode is maintaining personal hygiene. For most Americans, personal hygiene is simply a matter of walking into their bathroom and "washing up. Conversely, the homeless are required to take numerous "additional steps" to achieve what most Americans do in one or two steps.
YouthCare is a non-profit that Carla has been supporting through her church foundation by cooking and serving a meal one Thursday a month. I have helped a little, but think I can do more. One thing I noticed was the bins for personal hygiene products (travel sized) that were being offered to the clients. I went online and sourced a vendor that sells these sized items at a low cost. One vendor offers, single use packets that are portable, sealed, and easy to use and for all needs such as deodorant, shampoos, conditioner, and body wash. A case of 1000 is about 50 bucks total, so my goal is to buy 10 cases through this fundraiser.
Being able to maintain ones personal hygiene is important to everyone no matter their circumstances. I think this is important to build self-esteem and self-confidence.
To encourage you to support, Carla and I will match the first $250 donated in hopes that we can exceed our goal of $500.00.
