Youth Dirt Passion is about promoting youth action for environmental sustainability.

This April I will begin hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. The trail is a 2,660 mile trek from the border of Mexico to the Border of Canada, through California, Oregon, and Washington. I will walk an average of 20-30 miles per day for a little over 4 months. For each mile I hike, I will raise money for the Youth Dirt Passion Fund.

Specifically, this fund will be donated to Casco Bay High School, in Portland, Maine. The fund will be donated on the condition that it is used for a student-chosen sustainability project.

Why is this important?
1) Sustainable systems are a necessity in a world of finite resources, and must be implemented immediately.
2) People thrive when given an opportunity to do something that will better the world.
3) Young people should be educated in an institution that role models awareness of how personal needs fit into a broader context.
4) As an alumni of Casco Bay High School, I hope to model the potential for youth-led initiatives to current students.
5) I hope to consider myself a long-term contributing Casco Bay High School community member.
